Munich Germany: Home of the World’s Largest Oktoberfest Celebration

There is no time like the present to begin thinking about taking a little time off for some real celebration next fall. Oktoberfest in Munich Germany is a tradition that goes back at least 200 years and although the festival is only two weeks long, it consumes the hearts of the locals year round. From mid September to the first weekend in October, there is literally nonstop excitement throughout the city, but of course the ultimate Oktoberfest experience begins in the beer tents.

As a matter of fact, Oktoberfest is about more than the wonderful German/Bavarian beers you will get to enjoy. There is a family day and throughout the festival there is a carnival and a host of rides for the entire family to enjoy. Of course, in the evenings you might want to leave the younger kids with a nanny or sitter, but there is no reason why the entire family should be able to experience some of the wonders of Oktoberfest first hand, in the land where the tradition was born.

Nearby attractions that can also be visited during your stay in Munich include the Munich Zoo, the Deutsches (German) Museum, among an assortment of castles, cathedrals and parks. It is best to plan your trip to Oktoberfest well in advance as more than 6 million people visit Munich during the festival. Finding accommodations might be tricky if not booked early. One thing is for sure. You will never have a dull moment in Munich during Oktoberfest and it is sure to be an experience you will take with you for the rest of your life.
