Most Romantic Destinations in the World
Perhaps the children have flown the nest and gone to University; perhaps you haven’t seen as much of your other half as you might have liked to over the Summer; perhaps you just feel that you and your partner deserve a bit of ‘you’ time and want a treat. Whatever the reason, if you’re looking for a romantic getaway, look no further because we’ve rounded up the most romantic destinations around the world for you to choose from for that special holiday. Whether you’re looking for sandy beaches and lazing in the sun or something a bit different, you can’t go wrong with these:
1. Paris, France
A little cliche’d perhaps, but it’s undeniably still the city of love. Wander down the banks of the Seine, climb the Eiffel Tower, indulge in gorgeous wines and delicious local delicacies.
2. Rome, Italy
Another fairly safe bet if you want to wow your other half. Rome has amazing monuments and famous landmarks around almost every corner, and you shouldn’t miss tours of St Peter’s or the Vatican (make sure you pack clothes that will cover your shoulders and knees). When your day is done, head to any of the local pizzarias or restaurants for delicious Italian food (look out for chocolate panna cotta – it won’t do your waistline any favours but it’s worth it) and then for a walk around town by moonlight.
3. The Lake District, UK
If you haven’t time to go too far afield, consider staying in one of the UK’s most beautiful regions. The Lake District is perfect if you enjoy long, romantic walks in the hills followed by cosy pub lunches. Or simply stay in one of the many bed and breakfasts and enjoy lazy wanders around the quaint towns and villages in the area, stopping for the occasional cream tea in a traditional tea room. Keswick is particularly good for couples who may not want to do a lot of strenuous hiking but do enjoy a good walk: here, you can walk around Derwent Water (which takes about three hours) and if you tire half way round you can catch a boat back to the main jetty.
4. The Seychelles
Located just off the coast of South Africa, the Seychelles are just what you imagine when you picture long white sandy beaches, palm trees and glorious turquoise oceans. Stay in a luxury hotel or in a romantic beach hut. Perfect for honeymoons or for people wanting to rediscover the romantic side of their relationship. Do as much or as little as you like: laze on the beach all day sipping cocktails; try scuba diving or deep-sea fishing; you might even want to go mountain biking in the hills. Enjoy!
5. The Maldives
Another key beach-destination, the Maldives is for people serious about relaxing together. More white sandy beaches than you can shake a stick at; coral reefs in the beautiful Indian Ocean to explore and wall to wall sunshine, stay in a thatched beach hut for that authentic romantic island getaway.
